Histogram, bar chart and box plot from frequency table

Histogram, søjlediagram og boksplot ud fra hyppighedstabel

It is in GeoGebra possible to create a bar graph, a histogram and / or a box plot based upon the, as they call frequency divided data. Ie. that you only have frequency table and want to have made the bar graph, histogram and / or box plot.

This task was tested in particular. task 1 in primary school for 9. klasse (FSA) in May 2011, which was about “Too little or too much sleep”. Here, one produced a result of the examination. The result was shown in a frequency table.

Frequency table so roughly as follows.

frequency Table

The task was then:

Create a chart, that makes it possible to compare the sleep habits of 9. A with sleep habits 9. B.

The guide below is not an answer to the task above, but simply a way to create a box plot, bar graph or histogram based on a frequency table. Look below for tips, how to solve the task.

How to do

  1. Vis regnearket i GeoGebra. (Findes under menuen Vis).
  2. Enter frequency table, as the observations are in e.g. column A, and the frequencies in column B and C. (Be aware of, to decimal numbers must be entered with a dot instead of a comma – See picture in point 3)
  3. Mark observations.
    Mark observations
  4. Press Simple Variable Analysis-enkeltvariabelanalyse
  5. Press the small sprocket Toothed and select “Frequency Divided data”.
    Frequency Divided data
  6. Now select frequencies (with kolonne B).
  7. Press the small hand Hand window next to the Frequency.
Frequency Divided data - Tryk på frekvens
  8. Press “Analyze”.
  9. Now we just have to choose, of diagram you want.
Frequency Divided data - Choose chart
  10. Tryk the symbol Show stats, so you can view statistics.
Frequency Divided data - Show stats
  11. Now you have the opportunity to save the chart to the clipboard, as picture or drawing pad by pressing the button del-share-gem.

TIPS!

If you need to investigate or make multiple box plots (or histograms, bar charts), then there are several methods that.

You could

  • repeat the steps above and just save each box plot on the drawing pad. Each box plot you will be able to give different colors.
  • repeat the steps above and before you copy the drawing pad, then press the tegneblok (vis begge tegneblokke under menupunktet ‘Vis’), you want to save the diagram on. Now you can press the button del-share-gem og vælge ‘Kopier til Tegneblok’.
  • I Windows 7 and 8 there is a cutting tool, which makes it possible to cut the, displayed on the screen (Tryk på Windowstasten på tastaturet og skriv ‘klippeværktøj’). Then copy the images to a writing program.
